How to change the pitch of your voice using Audacity.
Before you begin:
Audacity is a free program you can download from its website. Make sure you have Audacity downloaded on your computer and also make sure you have a microphone plugged into the appropriate jack. Without the microphone you will not be able to record your voice.
Step 1: Open up Audacity Program
You can open up Audacity by double clicking the icon of it on your desktop. If you don't have the shortcut for Audacity on your desktop then you can open it up by clicking on Start and then All Programs.
Step 2: Start recording
To start recording your voice click on the record button located on the control bar on the top of the program. The record button is the button wiht the red dot, just click it once and start speaking into the mic.
Step 3: Stop recording
Once you have finished recording press the stop button. The stop button is the button with the yellow square. Using the cursor, click at the end of the track you have recorded and then click and drag to highlight the entire recorded track.
Step 4: Change pitch
To change the pitch of the highlighted track, click on Effect which is located on the very top above the record button. After you click Effect a side menu will open up with different options. Click on the option that reads Change Pitch; this option will be the thrid one down.
Step 5: Adjust pitch
After you click change pitch another window will open up that helps you adjust the pitch. The pitch scale located near the bottom of this window. Click and slide the button to the left of the scale to get a lower pitch or deeper voice. Click and drag the button towards the right of the scale to get a higher pitch or higher voice.If you would like to listen to a clip of the changes you made and then click Preview. Just keep adjusting and previewing the changes you make until you have the desired pitch, then simply click the OK button.
Step 6: Listen
To listen to the entire track with the changes you made with the pitch click the play button which is the button with the green triangle. You ready to save and export your track.
Step 7: Save
To save your project click on File which is located on the top left hand side of the window. Then scroll down and click on Save Project As. Another window will open that will help you save your project. On this new window, beside the heading File Name, click on the box and type in a title for your project and then click the save button.
If you would like to export your project as a wav. file then go to File and then scroll down to Export As Wav. and click on it. Another window will open, on it beside File name, click on the box and type in a name for your project and then click Save.
Step 8:Close and celebrate
You are now finished and can close the program by click the X that is located on the top right hand side of the screen. Congraulations! You have successfully recorded and changed the pitch of your voice using the Audacity program.
